Career and Higher Education Support
At Harefield School, we are committed to providing exceptional career and higher education support to our students, recognising the importance of equipping them with the tools and resources necessary to navigate their post-secondary options effectively. Our comprehensive programme encompasses a variety of initiatives, ensuring that each student receives tailored guidance relevant to their individual aspirations.
Our dedicated Tutors at Harefield School play an integral role in this support system. Through regular one-on-one sessions, Tutors assist students in identifying their strengths and interests, helping to clarify their academic and vocational pathways. This personalised approach encourages students to set realistic goals and develop action plans to achieve them.
In addition to Tutor support, we partner with UCAS (the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) to provide essential information regarding university applications. Our students are given access to workshops that cover the fundamentals of the UCAS process, including personal statement writing and interview preparation. This not only enhances their understanding of higher education options but also empowers them to make informed choices based on accurate and up-to-date information.
To further enrich our students’ understanding of potential career pathways, we have established a collaboration with the EDT Careers Advisor. Regular sessions with our dedicated advisor allow students to explore various career options, understand the job market and receive advice on CV writing and job applications. The EDT Careers Advisor also assists students in identifying apprenticeship opportunities that align with their skills and interests, providing them with a viable alternative to the traditional university route.
We also recognise the value of experiential learning through visits to universities. These trips not only expose students to campus life but also allow them to engage with current students and faculty, fostering a deeper understanding of academic expectations and university culture. Such experiences can significantly influence their decision-making regarding higher education and help to demystify the university application process.
Moreover, we invite professionals from various industries to deliver talks about apprenticeships and career development. These sessions offer students first-hand insights into the evolving job market, the skills employers are seeking and the realities of various career paths. By showcasing success stories of apprenticeship programmes, we encourage students to consider this alternative route as a meaningful career choice.
Harefield School is devoted to guiding our students through their career and higher education journeys, ensuring they are well-prepared to make informed decisions about their futures. Through our collaborative efforts, we aim to inspire and empower our students to achieve their full potential.
