Key Aims of Music at Harefield School:
Foster Musical Creativity and Expression
- Enable students to develop their creativity and express emotions through performance, composition, and improvisation.
- Encourage originality and personal voice across various styles, genres, and traditions.
Build Technical and Theoretical Skills
- Equip students with a strong foundation in music theory and practical performance techniques, progressively developing these skills across Key Stage 3.
- Ensure students gain confidence in using instruments such as keyboards, percussion, and their voice, as well as incorporating music technology.
Explore Cultural and Historical Contexts
- Provide opportunities to study a wide range of musical traditions and styles, from classical and folk to contemporary genres like rap, reggae, and club dance music.
- Encourage appreciation of how music reflects time, place, and culture, promoting cultural diversity and understanding.
